Transitional Rugs

Shop transitional rugs for sale in Jacksonville, FL at Michael’s Rug Studio. A transitional rug keeps the bones of a classical design — a medallion, a vine scroll, a border — and relaxes everything else. The drawing is simplified, the palette is lifted into greys, ivories, soft blues, taupe and muted terracotta, and many pieces are finished with an antique or overdyed wash that lowers the contrast. The result reads as neither period nor strictly modern, which is exactly why it has become the most-requested style in our showroom.

It is the practical answer for a home that mixes furniture generations: an inherited dining set beside a slipcovered sofa, or new upholstery in a house with traditional millwork. A transitional rug gives both halves something to agree on. It also suits Florida interiors specifically, where strong natural light flattens dark, saturated color but a bare floor leaves a large room feeling unfinished. Open-plan great rooms, coastal living rooms, primary bedrooms and bright dining rooms are where these do their best work.

Compare it against our traditional collection if you want more pattern and depth of color, or our contemporary collection if you want less. Sizes run from runners to large room-size rugs, with custom weaving available. See them in person at 7119 Bentley Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256, Monday through Friday 9–5 and Saturday 9–3, or request a free rug consultation and we will shortlist pieces for your room.
